hi,
then I run a script, the editor opens in a separate file, but I would prefer to see the editor with the script above the command window, how can I do that?

Hi,
In the menu bar for MATLAB, click on 'layout'. You get different options. It sounds like the 'default' option here is what you need. Hope this helps.

Neither solution works on my Macbook Pro running os 12.6.7 with Matlab R2021a update 4
I used to have no trouble with command window docked in editor window. Now this seems unachievable. I'm not aware of any relevant changes in the meantime.

For 2023 matlab, can refer to this link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTmtL413MtA
or
- open your editor.
- look at the right corner above toolstrip

- click on the mini arrow, the last one next to upside down triangle

Just press Ctrl+Shift+D in the editor window. This might help you.

Look towards the upper right of the editor window for a downward pointing triangle. Click on that and choose Undock Editor.
(This assumes you are running R2012b or later)
THanks it is working.
