Simscape multibody error after installation

When completing a fresh install of matlab with simscape, simulink and simscape multibody using an academic licence, it installs sucessfully however when I open a simscape multibody template, all multibody blocks have their images replaced with 'SimscapeMultibody' and loose all ports. Double clicking a multibody block brings up its correct menu however attempting to edit any properties brings up the following error:

Output argument "object" (and maybe others) not assigned during call to "strip"

Attempting to run any multibody examples also brings up this same error.

Deleting and re-installing matlab did not seem to work for me after trying with 2019b, 2020a, 2020b and 2021a and 2020a on another drive.
